GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Since 2008, Arche and Eurometaux developed the MeClas tool that is able to characterize the hazard of complex inorganic materials based on the hazard of the elemental constituents and/or their speciation and/or their bio-availability:

  • Tool for the classification of complex inorganic materials (e.g. Ores and Ore Concentrates, Slags, Alloys).

  • Derivation of GHS-based classification according to the latest scientific and regulatory principles.

  • Up-to-date underlying database containing the most recent classification of substances (official and self-classifications).

MeClas can be used for a wide range of regulatory purposes such as ADR and IMO-related provisions (MARPOL, IMDG, IMSBC). Tiered approach; level of refinement depends on the amount of available information for the material (elemental analysis, mineralogy, speciation, bioavailability).

The web-based tool was originally developed for the purpose of CLP and is a good basis for hazard characterisation of low grade ores and waste materials.
