QUALITY-ASSURED RECYCLING SOLUTIONS

The Stena Metall Group recycles and processes metals, paper, plastics, electronics and hazardous waste across Europe. The Group offers quality-assured recycling solutions to all industries and sectors of society. Its operations also include international trading in steel, metals and oil.

The Stena Metall Group also has the responsibility and ownership of landfills. In the development towards a resource efficient Europe, landfills are important sources of resources and through innovations they strive to turn yesterday’s waste into tomorrow’s resources. In order to identify business potential, environmental benefits and challenges, the Group has performed a couple of pilot projects in landfill mining. Results show a high potential in terms of metal content while the material heterogenity imply technical risks and challenges. Also, the current legislation and the policy makers’lack of understanding and knowledge regarding landfill mining, hinder implementation. Stena also collaborates with Linköping University with the aim to develop strategies, concepts and measures for facilitating extraction of abandoned natural resources in landfills.

The Stena Metall Group takes responsibility for closing material loops through focusing on innovative solutions towards a circular economy. They look forward to future cooperations.

Welcome to EURELCO

EURELCO is an open, quadruple helix network that supports the required technological, legal, social, economic, environmental and organisational innovation with respect to the development and implementation of a Dynamic Landfill Management (DLM) framework. The DLM framework includes resource recovery-driven Enhanced Landfill Mining (ELFM) as one of its most advanced components, thereby supporting the transition to a resource efficient, circular, low-carbon economy. Are you a relevant actor working on DLM or ELFM?
