GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The goal is to develop a process for the recovery of spent NiMH batteries from vehicles. A technical and economic analysis for the recycling of the battery system will be performed. In addition, an environmental assessment that includes the whole battery life cycle will be performed using life cycle analysis (LCA). Our goal is to develop a cutting edge, environmentally friendly and economically viable process. For the hydrometallurgical part of the process, a series of novel separation processes will be developed: supported liquid membrane extraction, preparative chromatography and precipitation. The research will focus on the industrial applicability and the project participants will have regular contact with representatives from the industry to establish the results and make them applicable in industry.
