Towards Sustainable Waste Management was an interdisciplinary research programme dedicated to investigating policy instruments and strategic decisions that can contribute to developing waste management in a more sustainable direction.
Towards Sustainable Waste Management:
Surveys existing as well as potential policy instruments.
Develops future scenarios illustrating how a more sustainable waste management can be designed.
Investigates systems for source separation and collection aiming to develop knowledge that is needed to adapt these systems to consumers, organisations and companies.
Investigates the processes of the recycling industry aiming to improve their environmental performance
The project was a multidisciplinary effort involving ten institutes in Sweden. KTH was mainly involved in:
Developing suggestions for policy.
Assessing environmental impacts of different policy proposals.
Analysing how efficient systems can be designed from a users perspective.
Analysing the potential of improved recycling processes.
Developing future scenarios.
