Three EU-projects on landfill management and/or mining were presented at the joint SMART GROUND – COCOON – RAWFILL workshop that was held in Mechelen (Belgium) on February 7, 2018. An international public of more than 100 people from academia, policy makers, companies and NGO’s received information on the projects. In the panel debate some of the challenges to tackle landfill mining projects were discussed as well as the toolsdeveloped in the SMART GROUND project. Magnus Gislev from the European Commission DG GROW was among the participants. He stressed that landfill mining projects can contribute to the sustainable development goals and supported warm-hardly the cooperation and interaction between the three projects. EURELCO can play a major role in this as communication platform for LF projects.
